Snapchat has announced that its Memories feature, which has been free since 2016, will now require payment for users who exceed 5GB of storage. The platform will continue to offer 5GB of storage at no cost, but any additional data will require a subscription.

According to Snapchat, the paid storage service will roll out gradually worldwide. TechCrunch reports that the plans will include:
- 100GB for $1.99/month (approximately ₹176)
- 250GB for $3.99/month (approximately ₹354)
Existing users with more than 5GB of stored content will receive 12 months of temporary access and the option to download their data before subscribing.
User Backlash
The announcement has sparked criticism on social media. Many users have called the move unfair and opportunistic. Snapchat, however, defended the decision, noting that transitioning from a free service to a paid model is never an easy process.
